Women in their 60-s and over

Women live longer than men, and thus reproduce a large number of all old people in the world. Indeed, in about 55% of adults in the 60 years of old and over are females, and the number enlarges to 58% at age of 70 and above. Such chronic conditions as cardiovascular disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease cause about 46% of deaths in women over 60 years of age. The other foremost cause of death among women over 60 is cancer. Most deaths are caused by breast, lung and colon cancer. It is proved that lots of the health disorders which women suffer in older age are the consequence of risk factors that appear in their 14- 30s. These risks include smoking, inactive lifestyle and unhealthy food habits and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol. Other perspective health medical conditions for older women are vision problems mainly cataracts, hearing problems, arthritis, depression and dementia. Round the world, cardiovascular disease mostly heart attacks, ischemic heart disease and stroke often associated with males’ deaths are the main death causes in older women. Women are likely to have heart disease later in life than men. Tobacco use in any form is related to about 10% of cardiovascular disease in women. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease also called chronic obstructive lung disease and chronic obstructive respiratory disease is the combination of chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Both diseases represent co-occurring disorders of the lungs characterized by the narrowing of the airways. This results in a limited airflow to and from the lungs, leading to shortness of breath. This limitation is badly prevented and commonly progresses over time. Breast, lung and colon types of cancer are among the topmost death afflictions of older women worldwide. The mortality among women with cancers is very high. Internationally, more than 70% of lung cancer deaths are caused by tobacco use.
