Warnings and Precautions

To estimate the erectile dysfunction it is necessary to make an appropriate medical assessment to determine potential underlying causes and treatment options.

Before taking this drug it is important to note the following things:

The cardiovascular status of males suffering from ED should be carefully considered, because of the great cardiac risk related to sexual activity.

If sexual activity is inadvisable for a person ED therapies including Cialis are not recommended at all. Persons experiencing symptoms of heart diseases during sexual activity should stop sexual activity and seek immediate medical attention.

For those who use nitrate drugs at least 48 hours should have elapsed after the last dose of Cialis before nitrate administration is considered. That is why nitrates are taken under close control by your doctor. Males who experience chest pain after taking Cialis should seek immediate medical help and not take nitrates because in this case nitrates can interact with Cialis and make the situation worse.

Cialis is not recommended for those who suffer from:

  • myocardial infarction within the last 90 days
  • unstable angina or angina occurring during sexual intercourse
  • heart failure in the last 6 months
  • uncontrolled arrhythmias, hypotension (<90/50 mm Hg), or uncontrolled hypertension (>170/100 mm Hg)
  • stroke within the last 6 months.

The reports of prolonged erections or  priapism (painful erections greater than 6 hours in duration) are rare. Priapism can result in a great damage to the erectile tissue. Males  who have an erection lasting greater than 4-6 hours, whether painful or not, should seek emergency medical help.

Sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia and anatomical deformation of the penis may predispose patients to priapism. Cialis should be prescribed for such patients with great caution.
